"Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."
2 Corinthians 3:17 NIV
On a cool summer morning, I retreated to our balcony to write. As I closed the door behind me, I caught sight of a lovely dragonfly in a nosedive, held motionless in a spider web. I leaned closer to study its gossamer wings, all the while watching for a sign of life. There was a flutter, then another.
Quickly, I eased a broom against the web to free its captive. With a few gentle movements, the creature and a tendril of the web dangled from my broom. The dragonfly struggled, unable to release its tenacious bond. When I carefully turned the broom upside down and gave a little shake, the winged beauty fluttered hard and rose on the breeze. In an instant, it disappeared into the canopy of leaves.
My joy at its flight to freedom brought tears to my eyes. It reminded me of circumstances in life that once held me captive, paralyzed in fear and doubt. In His perfect timing, God's supernatural strength had shown up, and lifted me on wings I did not know I had.
Thank you, Lord, for your Spirit of love that frees us. Amen.
