Autumn's Grand Ballet
September 30, 2009By Barbara Parentini

I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works. Psalm 145:5 NKJV

Autumn is such an exciting time of year!  As a child growing up in the cornfields of Ohio, autumn meant glorious color, the famous pumpkin show in Circleville, and roadside stands to enjoy fresh cider and doughnuts.  The church youth group held hayrides followed by guitar-strumming singalongs around a bonfire after our invigorating ride.  Hot dogs, roasted marshmallows, and all the hot chocolate we could drink kept us warm in the chilly night air under the stars.

Autumn continues to inspire me to write poetry and prose.  I've adapted last autumn's Blog post, and added some new lines as God paints His awesome masterpiece in nature.  Keep looking up!

September whispers its cue for autumn's grand ballet.
Anticipation stirs the air as
Night costumes trees in secret.
Burnished bronze and copper
await the morning sun,
Nature's stained glass in golden light.

Drawn to the windows,
My breath stills in the hypnosis of color.
Slender dogwood branches startle with crimson,
Their silhouette against a mural of gold.

Entranced, I linger, my gaze unbroken.
Hours pass, tasks untouched.  I watch
Red leaves piroutte and swirl from tall maples
and towering white oaks.
Trees weep their leaves to the sun-
dappled earth.

Light speaks her silent language of beauty,
As I look through autumn's windowpane
to heaven.

The Lord has gifted you with a gift to express His beauty through the beauty of crafted words.
A Sweet Reminder
Posted By STEPHANIESHOTT on October 3, 2009
Hi Barbara,
I enjoyed taking a little trip over to your website and read your blog about Autumn. I'm from Florida, so in order to see the leaves change, we would take an annual vacation to Maggie Valley. We haven't been there since we went to the mission field in 2002, but your beautiful poem was a sweet reminder of the sights and even the smells.
Eternally His,
